Mr. Determined will follow the exploits of stay-at-home dad, and all-around-average guy Ryan Jezek, as he challenges the 2010 24 hour mountain bike racing season.
This film is based on one premise: it's easy to be fast.
It's easy to be Lance Armstrong; it's easy when you have that physical base.
It is much harder to be average: to do it all yourself.
This film will examine the determination necessary to mount successful
race season while balancing graduate studies, a family, and life in general.
My name is Ryan, and
I'm making a film about 24 Hour Mountain Bike Racing.
So many cycling movies have focused on the elite athlete,
but what about the other 99% of us?
When I raced my first Solo 24 Hour race, I didn't see a bunch of
polished team vans;
I saw a bunch of people just like me:
People who love to ride, and want to challenge themselves.
This film will focus on the dedication required to compete in these endurance events,
and the transformational nature of this experience.
It will give a detailed look into my training and preparation.
The film will also give consideration to the spiritual aspect of training and
competition: especially how it relates to Zen practices.
Through this film, I hope to show cycling in a new light.
I hope to prove that focus can override physiology: what you believe you can achieve.
